Board of Directors
The Board of Directors provides oversight and governance of the operations at Holland Christian Homes as it seeks to bring the Strategic Plan to life. The four strategic directions as outlined in the current Strategic Plan are: Creating a Centre of Excellence, Strengthening Communications, Building our Health and Human Resources, and Investing in our Infrastructure.
The Board works to protect the Christian nature of Holland Christian Homes, honouring the Dutch Heritage, never losing sight of the core values as outlined in our Statement of Faith.
The work of the Board in overseeing the operations of HCH is structured through committees, which include: Executive, Care, Finance, Governance, Nominating, Building & Facilities, and Development committees.
Call for Directors:
The Board would like to hear from anyone who shares our passion for HCH, loves God, and would be interested in bringing their unique skills, experience, and time to the role as Board Member. We are particularly looking for individuals with experience in: nursing/clinical work, ethics/ethical decision making, pastoral care, facilities management, human resources, finance, governance, and general management.
Directors serve terms of up to 3 years and are eligible for re-election to a maximum of two consecutive 3-year terms.

Meet our Board of Directors

Donya Stubbs – Chair
Donya has over 25 years of experience working in the food and market research industries. During her career Donya has served on multiple market research and sensory science boards in both Canada and the US, championing best practices, strategic efficiencies and effective communication.
In her professional leadership roles, Donya has sought to mentor emerging professionals, promote practical communication and demonstrate servant leadership.
Donya is the current Chair of the Board and also serves as a member of the Executive, Care, Finance and Governance committees.

Case Geleynse – Vice Chair
Case has held a variety of management positions over his career and brings extensive knowledge to the Board.
Case is the Vice President of the Board and also serves as Chair of the Care committee and member of the Executive, Governance and Development committees.

Greg Riedstra – Secretary
Greg is a property manager and owner of a number of residential apartment buildings. He has been involved in property management and investment for over 30 years and has owned and operated a variety of small businesses.
Greg is also active in serving on various non-profit boards and committees.
Greg is the current Secretary of the Board and also serves as the Chair of the Building & Facilities committee and member of the Executive committee.

Charles Sjaarda – Director
Charles works as a construction consultant and project manager, after operating a construction and renovation firm for 25 years. Charles studied business at the University of Toronto.
Charles has also served on various non-profit boards and committees.
Charles serves as the Chair of the Governance committee and Chair of the Nominating committee.

Ralph DeWolf – Director
Ralph held positions in Industrial Engineering, as Plant Management, Corporate Controller and finally as a Chief Financial Officer over his career.
Ralph has held many volunteer positions at his church and has also volunteered at HCH for many years.
Ralph serves as a member of the Care committee.

Jessica Miedema – Director
Jessica has been a practicing solicitor since 2006 and holds an Honours BA from McMaster University and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
Jessica has also served for many years on the board of directors of the Lighthouse. In addition to volunteer positions at her church, Jessica has also completed an assortment of pro bono projects for various charities.
Jessica serves as Chair of the Governance committee and as a member of the Care committee.

James Schenk – Treasurer
James has 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, holding various senior management roles, including Chief Risk Officer and Country Manager positions. James has his Chartered Director designation from McMaster University and the Conference Board of Canada, and is active in serving on various non-profit boards and committees.
James serves as Chair of the Finance committee.

Pastor Hank Bylstra – Director
Pastor Hank Bylstra served at HCH for 18 years as part of the Pastoral Team and blessed the community greatly during his time here.
Pastor Hank joined the Board in 2022 and serves as a member of the Care committee.

Joseph Koole – Director
Joe spent his career as a banker. Joe has previously served on the HCH Board during the building of Covenant Tower, Heritage Hall and Faith Manor.
Joe joined the Board in 2022 and serves as a member of the Finance committee.

Joe Schuringa – Director
Joe enjoyed a 40-year career as founder & CEO of his own business in the automotive and properties industry. At the age of 70, Joe felt called to found the LifeWork Ministry, which runs seminars and workshops focussing on Christians and Success in the Workplace.
Joe joined the Board in 2022 and serves as a member of the Building & Facilities committee as well as the Nominations committee.
